A Winning Week Meets a Tense Weekend
A Winning Week Meets a Tense Weekend
Nvidia beat estimates with $96.2 billion in quarterly revenue and an outlook strong enough to lift the entire chip complex, jumping 8.7% and pulling the S&P 500 to a 0.5% weekly gain. Then Fed Chair Kevin Warsh used his first Jackson Hole keynote to say inflation is running too high, sending September hike odds to roughly 57% per the CME FedWatch Tool, up from about 30% a week earlier. And after Friday’s close, the weekend brought direct military exchanges: US forces struck Iranian missile launchers near the Strait of Hormuz and Iran retaliated against bases housing American troops in Jordan, with nearly all missiles intercepted. The August jobs report waiting Friday.
